Arsene Wenger is interested in signing Anthony Martial should he miss out on the signing of Kylian Mbappe.
Mbappe is Arsenal’s top transfer target this summer, but their lack of Champions League football is likely to prove crucial when competing against Real Madrid.
The likelihood is that Arsenal miss out on Mbappe, and therefore have to choose a different target.
According to the Mail on Sunday, Martial is that man. The Frenchman is fighting for relevance at Manchester United having started only 18 games last season. He will surely need more regular football if he is to break back into the France squad for next summer’s World Cup?
The piece claims that Wenger is prepared to pay £40m for Martial, but is concerned that Jose Mourinho would never agree to a sale.
Instead, Wenger would ask negotiations to be done at board level. Surely United aren’t going to sell Martial over Mourinho’s head?
