Manchester United have the responsibility to end the speculation over Paul Pogba’s future at the club, as rumors continue to swirl over a potential Old Trafford exit this summer.

That’s that opinion of former Red Devils assistant coach Rene Meulensteen.

The French superstar has been linked with some of Europe’s biggest clubs ahead of the summer transfer window, with reports that a breakdown of the relationship with manager Jose Mourinho could see him leave United just two years after returning for a club-record £89million.

United legend Paul Scholes joined the rabble discussing Pogba’s below-par performances on Wednesday – after United’s 2-0 Premier League victory over Bournemouth – saying he believes the midfielder will not be at the club next season.

And Meulensteen insists Man United need to end the speculation now, for the good of the club and the player.

Asked if Pogba could leave Old Trafford in the summer, the Dutchman told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast: “Nothing is impossible in football, as we all know.

“I do think the club should do everything to clear things up quickly, because Paul is a very good player and he showed that again last night.

“They need to take away the speculation around him and his position, and the sooner they do that the better it is for the club, for the player and the manager.”
