Former England coach Fabio Capello says they’d perform better at tournaments if they stopped hiding behind an “excuse culture”.
Capello believes that Roy Hodgson’s men have the talent to win a major tournament but must first fix the ‘excuse culture’ in the side.
He said: “There are three main reasons for the failure of the national team at the highest level and until they are addressed it will be difficult to succeed.
“The first is the excuse culture that is ingrained in English football, the second is fatigue and the third is the pressure of wearing the England shirt because it hangs so heavily on the players.
“The excuse culture is unique to the England team, something the players have been conditioned to over the years.
“England players have the talent but they have to change the way they think.”
