On Tuesday night, Brighton & Hove Albion took on fellow Championship side Reading. Brighton were able to steal a 1-0 win against Reading with the sole goal coming from Manchester United loanee James Wilson.
Albion boss Chris Hughton decided to partner up James Wilson and Sam Baldock up front for the match, dropping top scorer Tomer Hemed to the bench.
However, Hughton did not regret his decision as the Manchester United loanee Wilson scored the crucial goal in the first half that ended up giving the Albion the win.
Following the match, the jubilant Brighton manager discussed with the press about his strike partnership. Hughton commented to The Argus: “Both were very good.
James and Sam had plenty of running in them and they were part of a really good, solid team performance and certainly a performance that deserved to win the game.”
Hughton commented about James Wilson’s performance saying, “I wanted to freshen things up. I made up my mind I wanted to play James. It was a very good finish.”
Hughton continues, “Sometimes a player comes on loan and he’s not involved at all. He has been involved. That was probably his best all-round 90 minutes.”
Such high praise for the young English striker should get all Manchester United fans excited. In 17 appearances for Brighton & Hove Albion, the 20-year-old has scored a total of four goals.
Brighton & Hove Albion’s win on Tuesday helped push the club into second place in the Championship, six points behind first place Burnley. However, Middlesborough sit one point behind Albion with a game in hand.
If Brighton & Hove Albion are able to hold onto their position and eventually reach promotion, the side may look to extend Wilson’s loan or may even make the loan permanent.
