Conte hopes to stop Zlatan winning the league

Antonio Conte has signalled his intention to stop Zlatan Ibrahimovic winning a league title again.

Ibrahimovic had won league titles in three separate countries for each season from 2003/04 until Conte led Juventus to beat his Milan side to the Serie A championship in 2011/12.

That run included the Swede’s Serie A titles with Juventus, which were later rescinded because of the Calciopoli scandal, but Ibrahimovic’s league-winning legend is often told.

Conte’s 2011/12 title with Juventus came in his first campaign as manager in Turin, and the Italian has outlined his intention to repeat that feat with new club Chelsea.

“It was fantastic,” he said.

“We started the season as the underdog and the press had us down for sixth or seventh place in the table.

“Milan had Zlatan, it was the only season when he didn’t win the championship and I hope this season is the same again.

“Inter had won the treble in the season before under Mourinho and Napoli had Edinson Cavani and Marek Hamsik. In that period we were the underdogs and we won our first title unbeaten and the Cup.”
