Derby County manager Paul Clement has stated that under-pressure Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is one of the few people who can manage a top club.
Van Gaal finds himself under intense pressure at United after a bad run of results and many believe that the Dutchman could be shown the door if the Red Devils suffer a defeat in the 4th Round FA Cup clash against Derby on Friday night.
Clement was full of praise for van Gaal ahead of the game and believes that the 64-year-old still commands respect as he is one of the few men who can handle the pressure of managing one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
“He’s one of many coaches who have spent his career at all the big clubs. I think he’s well thought of, from a coach relatively new to this.” Clement said.
“Van Gaal, [Jose] Mourinho, [Carlo] Ancelotti, [Guus] Hiddink, [Pep] Guardiola, he’s part of that group.”
“When you look at the big clubs – Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Manchester United – there are very few people who can do those jobs, and he (Van Gaal) is absolutely on that list.”
