Manchester United fullback Donald Love has recalled signing his first pro deal.
Love, 21 enjoyed his senior debut at Sunderland last month and lined up in the Europa League defeat at Midtjylland five days later.
“Sir Alex offered me my first professional contract so it’s a huge confidence boost when you get it from someone like him.” He said.
“I went into his office and he said he was offering me a contract. It was great for him to put his faith in me, he must have seen something in me.
“Now I want to repay him. I was at Northwich and his grandson was at Egerton and we used to play against each other.
“Brian McClair is a club legend at Manchester United. I’ve known him ever since I went to the Carrington Training Centre.
“When you are nine-years-old you are scared of someone like him who is a legend and you just look up to him. He had worked with the academy players for God knows how many years and that reflects just how good he is at his job.
“And I’m totally committed to Scotland – I’ve been with Scotland since I was 16.”
