Former England coach Sven Goran Eriksson is backing Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney for a big Euros.
Eriksson, 68, cannot believe Rooney’s place is being questioned.
The Shanghai SIPG boss said: “Rooney is still a top player, I always say this. He has a lot of motivation to do well because we maybe haven’t seen the best of him at big tournaments before.”
“Any team in the tournament would like to have Rooney, I can tell you that.”
“He was very, very good for me at the 2004 Euros and then got injured.
“Wayne is captain, he is very important to England. He is strong, technically very good with a lot of experience.”
“He hasn’t had a big injury and has never relied on speed — he can play for England for many more years.”
