Europa League an embarrassment for United says Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand has branded Manchester United’s exit from the group stages of the Champions League as embarrassing.

United were knocked out of the group stages of the Champions League following the 3-2 defeat at the hands of Wolfsburg in Germany but the Red Devils are not completely out of Europe after a third place finish earned them a Europa League spot.

Despite the consolation of the Europa League, Red Devils great Ferdinand has stated that the players will be embarrassed to play in Europe’s second tier competition.

Ferdinand said on BT Sport: “It is embarrassing. I was in a squad that went into the Europa League.”

“It is an embarrassment. You don’t want to come out of your house, or walk around Manchester.”

“You look at people looking at you thinking ‘You are not good enough’, questioning you and questioning the team, a team that haven’t gone through a group stage they should have.”
