Former Manchester United midfielder Ray Wilkins has called for the immediate appointment of Jose Mourinho.
United’s defeat to FC Midtjylland on Thursday evening increased calls for Louis van Gaal to be replaced, with their hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League dwindling.
“If I was Mourinho and given the opportunity of United, I’d take it tomorrow,” Wilkins told BT Sport.
“Not wait until the end of the season. He can’t lose.”
“Having watched them the other night, that’s not all Van Gaal. The 14 players that took to the field were not good enough for United and something needs to change now otherwise their season could fade to absolutely nothing.
“They have a chance of winning the Europa League and qualifying for the Champions League, because I don’t think they’ll qualify through the Premier League.”
