Manchester United defender Chris Smalling has revealed that he had to be cautious in the 1-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday after receiving an early yellow card.
The 26-year-old received the caution after just 10 minutes of the Manchester derby, but he went on to produce a commendable performance in the centre of United’s defence t help his side to a narrow in over their crosstown rivals.
“I think to get a booking so early in the game made it very risky for the rest of the match,” he told MUTV.
“That was a situation where I don’t think it was necessarily a booking but if I’d done it again it probably could have been – I had to manage the game for a very long period with being on a booking.”
Teenage striker Marcus Rashford scored the only goal of the game as United went within four points of fourth-placed City with a monumental win at the Etihad Stadium.
