Van Gaal not angry, not frustrated but proud of Manchester United

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed he is proud of his side despite being knocked out of the Europa League by arch-rivals Liverpool on Thursday night.

United were looking to overturn a 2-0 deficit from the first leg of the Round of 16 tie, but Philippe Coutinho’s strike cancelled out Anthony Martial’s first-half penalty, ensuring the Merseyside club secured a 3-1 aggregate victory and progression to the quarterfinals.

However, despite the disappointing result and performance, van Gaal said he was not ‘angry’ or ‘frustrated’ with his players.

“I am not angry, I am not frustrated,” he told BT Sport.

“I was very proud of my players.

“They gave everything and I am pleased the fans recognised that.”
