Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has stated that Louis van Gaal should be given a chance to continue as manager if the Red Devils continue improving in the coming weeks.
United only managed a 0-0 draw at home against Chelsea on Monday and despite the score line, the Red Devils looked a lot sharper than they had been lately.
Following the game, under-fire manager Van Gaal had dismissed the possibility of resigning from his post and Old Trafford great Ferdinand has now gone on to state that the Dutchman should be given the opportunity to remain in the job if he continues bringing about improvements in their performances.
Ferdinand told BT Sport: “I think the encouragement is there with the way they are playing now, which goes back to the the identity that Manchester United have built over the years.”
“If that continues then I think he is within his right to try and make it right in the three year term he has got.”
“But if you don’t see an improvement or encouragement that it is going to go that way then I think it is inevitable that a change of manager will come at some point.”
