Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal feels it is important to give Anthony Martial time to grow as a player.
Plenty of pressure has been placed on the 20-year-old French striker since he arrived in England with a bang, scoring on debut against Liverpool before firing home a brace against Southampton.
Martial has failed to find the back of the net in the Premier League since but ahead of Tuesday night’s crunch Champions League meeting with Wolfsburg, Van Gaal has attempted to ease the burden that has found it’s way onto the shoulders of the former Monaco starlet.
“He’s very talented but only 20 years old,” van Gaal. “We have to give him time.
“That is always difficult when you are playing for a team like Manchester United because the expectations are very high.
“But I am convinced he shall continue with his performances and also that he will score at the right moments again.”
“You cannot expect a player of 20 years old to score in the Premier League every week.”
