Manchester United’s Louis van Gaal apologised for his reaction to an apparent piece of simulation from Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez on Sunday.
The Dutchman threw himself on the ground behind the touchline when arguing with fourth official Mike Dean during his side’s 3-2 victory over the Gunners at Old Trafford.
It was a bizarre action from van Gaal, and something that certainly drew headlines, but he was quick to admit his stupidity when quizzed on the matter at the post-match press conference.
“That was too emotional because at that time you are a bit too emotional,” he said.
“It is not good for the referee, for the linesman, for the fourth referee. I get criticism when I’m on the bench, now I do for getting off the bench! But it was wrong and I have to apologise.”
