Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho plans to shake up his squad numbers – literally.
The Sunday Mirror says Mourinho wants to re-assign some of his first-team squad with new numbers – but he won’t force players to change if there is a good reason why they should stick with their current ones.
Manager Mourinho would prefer squad numbers under 30 – and that’s a problem for some of the players who made their breakthrough under sacked boss Louis van Gaal.
Stars like Marcus Rashford , who wears 39, Jesse Lingard (No 35), Italian international defender Matteo Darmian (36), and young defenders Cameron Borthwick-Jackson (43), and Tim Fosu-Mensah (51), could all change.
Mourinho doesn’t want to enforce the rule but will ask players if they would consider a chance to conform with a streamlined squad list.
