Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has defended the lack of a striker signing in January.
With Wayne Rooney having been ruled out for six weeks with a knee injury, Anthony Martial is United’s only fit senior striker with youngster Will Keane next in line. However, Van Gaal is happy with his options.
“No, I don’t think that’s the case [that he should have bought],” he said.
“We have Anthony Martial, another striker. He has played several matches in this role.”
“He wants to play in this role also. I knew in advance that our captain Wayne Rooney should play a lot of matches because he has showed this every year.
“I called Will Keane back and he does very good in the second team.”
“That is at a lower level but sometimes you have to show it at a higher level and now he has the chance.”
