Manchester United defender Chris Smalling says David de Gea’s pre-match injury was no excuse for defeat at Europa League opponents FC Midtjylland.
Smalling was adamant the side would not use De Gea’s injury in the warm up as an excuse and believes United paid the price for their lack of aggression.
“He is obviously the main focus of our plans, but we can’t blame that injury or the previous injuries on our performance.
“We saw that Midtjylland pressed high, as a team they worked very hard and I think we just didn’t match that.”
“I think the aggression wasn’t there in the second-half, and we paid the price in the end.”
