Manchester United have denied reports of a secret meeting with departing Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola.
Reports in France claim Old Trafford chiefs held secret talks with Guardiola about him replacing Louis van Gaal.
It is claimed the club and 45-year-old Guardiola met in Paris last week.
However, United last night denied the meeting took place with the Spaniard, who will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season.
The news will still cause huge embarrassment to Van Gaal, who is under contract until 2017 and is convinced he is still the man to lead United back to the top.
Guardiola has been red-hot favourite to take over at Manchester City since announcing he would be leaving Bayern.
