Man Utd star Schweinsteiger sets new World Cup/Euros record

Bastian Schweinsteiger became the all-time games record holder at major tournaments.
The Manchester United midfielder made his 38th appearance at World Cups and European Championships in Thursday night’s 2-0 Euro2016 semi-final loss to France, to become the leading player in that statistic.

The 31-year-old has tallied the 38 appearances over seven tournaments to move ahead of former teammate Miroslav Klose, ex-Germany skipper Lothar Matthaus, Italy great Paolo Maldini and 2014 World Cup-winning captain Philipp Lahm.

Schweinsteiger has played at the 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016 Euros, while also featuring at the 2006, 2010 and 2014 World Cups, helping Die Mannschaft to victory in Brazil two years ago.
