Manchester United midfielder Andrea Pereira is enjoying his chance with Brazil’s Olympics squad.
Although born in Belgium, Pereira’s family are Brazilian and he is passionate about pulling on the famous yellow shirt, having represented them in the Under-20 World Cup final against Serbia last summer.
“I always support Brazil,” he told Inside United. “Always. Everyone puts the jersey on for Brazil and watches the games. It’s a special moment.
“There is such passion for the sport because, when you’re young, everyone in the family likes football.”
“The first thing you get when you’re small is a football. The next thing is a jersey of your favourite club. Everyone is playing outside in the streets and football is everything in Brazil.”
“You don’t have to be rich or poor. It doesn’t matter who you are – if you’re white or black. You play football, everyone together, and it’s really nice.”
