Brazilian midfielder Fred has arrived at Manchester United’s training ground to finalise his move to the club.
The Shakhtar Donetsk star is undergoing a medical at Carrington after the Ukrainian club accepted an offer worth around £52million from United.
Fred was part of the Brazil squad which played Croatia in a pre-World Cup friendly at Anfield on Sunday.
He came on as a second-half substitute in the 2-1 win for Brazil and was granted permission to stay in the north west to complete his move to United on Monday.
The rest of the Brazil squad have returned to London, where they have set up base at Tottenham’s training ground for kick off their preparations for Russia.
Subject to a successful medical, Fred will become Jose Mourinho’s first signing of the summer transfer window at Old Trafford.
Mourinho had made it his priority to bring in a new central midfielder, with Michael Carrick retiring and Marouane Fellaini looking set to leave the Red Devils this summer having turned down the offer of a new contract.
Fred, 25, has won two league titles, two domestic cups and three Super Cups since joining Shakhtar in 2013 from Internacional.
He has eight caps for Brazil and will be part of the 23-man squad in Russia this summer.
Premier League champions Manchester City were linked with Fred in January, but a deal did not materialise.
