Manchester United still have some players out with injuries, but the manager Louis van Gaal mentioned on MUTV that a few players are coming back. What will the starting XI most likely be?
Manchester United will be going into a big game against twelfth place Everton at Old Trafford looking to carry on from the big win against local neighbours Manchester City before the international break.
Van Gaal has seven players who are still injured, but a few of them will return soon and feature in the U21s match alongside their training to get back to full fitness. Luke Shaw and Bastian Schweinsteiger are the only ones who will still be out for quite some time.
A bit of good news is that Luke Shaw will be back in training from next week, but if he was to feature it might be the last game of the season. The left-back, who suffered a broken leg during the Champions League game against PSV, will start working with a physio in training from Monday.
Bastian Schweinsteiger , who suffered an injury whilst on international duty for Germany, will be taking a lot of time on rehabilitating and will most likely miss the Euro 2016.
Phil Jones is another concern, the Englishman picked up an injury in February and the status of him returning is still yet to be announced.
Ander Herrera, Ashley Young and Wayne Rooney are very close to coming back, Young played with the under-21 side in a match during the international break.
Van Gaal spoke on Rooney’s return during his press-conference: “He’s doing great. He trained today at a lower level with the ball and will probably play an Under-21s match before he comes back.”
After the vital win at the Etihad Stadium before the international break, nearly all the players from the first eleven deserve to keep their places.
David De Gea will be the obvious player to start in goal who has kept alive in so many matches this season.
Guillermo Varela who has been impressive since his debut might reclaim his place in the line-up, Matteo Darmian’s end product in attacks hasn’t really impressed Louis van Gaal.
Chris Smalling and Daley Blind will once again start in the heart of defence as United’s consistent centre-back partnership this season, whilst Marcos Rojo will most likely carry on playing at left-back after a solid performance against Manchester City.
Morgan Schneiderlin should retains his place in midfield after being complimented by fans on social media in recent weeks, with Michael Carrick set to partner him in the centre of midfield once again.
Juan Mata is most likely to be played in his best role as the central attacking midfield, after playing the vital role to assist Marcus Rashford during the Manchester derby.
Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard will be expected to carry out their key roles on the wings for United. Lingard played in the number 10 role in the last game, but it was most likely a tactical manoeuvre by van Gaal and the Englishman should return on the wings this weekend against Everton.
Martial is set to start on the wings again, after causing a lot of problems against Manchester City with his pace and dribbling skills.
Marcus Rashford is set to start as the lone striker again, after getting the vital goal in the derby and with no sign of Wayne Rooney ready to start for the first team.
Predicted XI: De Gea, Varela, Smalling, Blind, Rojo, Schneiderlin, Carrick, Lingard, Mata, Martial, Rashford.
