Juan Mata believes Marcus Rashford has helped restore the pride at Manchester United.
The 18-year-old striker marked his Premier League debut with a match-winning brace and an assist in Sunday’s 3-2 home win over Arsenal, just days after scoring a brace on his first senior appearance in the 5-1 Europa League victory over FC Midtjylland.
Teammate Mata has highlighted Rashford’s bright beginning at Old Trafford and feels he has taken an enormous stride to re-establishing the historic connection between the first team and the youth academy in what has been an indifferent campaign for the Red Devils.
“With such a good team performance it’s never fair to highlight this or that player, but of course all of us are very happy for Marcus Rashford,” Mata told the club’s official website.
“He’s played just a few minutes with the first team and has already scored very important goals, showing his great potential and giving us a hint of the bright future that I’m sure he has and that I wish to him.
“Besides, the club’s tradition and its connection with the Academy is making the fans proud of the great moment that Marcus and other team-mates are living, for they can see that the work with the young players is being rewarded.”
