Midfielder Michael Carrick has expressed that he felt that Manchester United were unlucky to lose against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday, but he thinks that United should forget the loss and focus on the Europa League fixture against Liverpool this week.
Last game, United feel short at the Hawthorns as they lost to the Baggies 1-0 to a Salomon Rondon strike, which led to the first defeat in five matches.
In the match, midfielder Juan Mata received an early red card for poor discipline on the pitch, after blocking a free kick being taken and kicking and a mistimed tackle against ex-Red Darren Fletcher.
But, Carrick thought that his side dealt well with having one less man on the pitch but insisted that players have to focus on the match against Liverpool just around the corner.
Carrick admitted that he felt disappointed about the result, but he thought that they were “pretty comfortable for most of it and they weren’t causing us many problems.
“This is another setback for Louis van Gaal’s men and they have some big games coming up which may be adding on top of the current pressure on the side.
Any team with 10-men on the pitch will struggle and Carrick acknowledged that by saying that it is “difficult because we have one less man in attack on the break, especially with Juan (Mata).”
Manchester United seemed to be in the game from the start but some misfortune came after what seemed to be West Brom’s only sight of goal in the game went into the back of the net and the midfielder thought that United could have gone on to win the game in the second half.
He said that the side “believed at half-time and that’s how it looked like it would pan out at the start of the second half.”
Unfortunately for the Red Devils, West Brom were clinical with their chance and Rondon has continued his recent form by adding to his tally.
The game was decided by one shot and luckily for the Baggies, it was their inform striker who was on the end of it. Carrick confirmed this by saying: “They have had one chance, one proper shot, taken it and scored and that’s where the game was won.”
