Jose Mourinho has been left ‘bemused’ by Paul Pogba’s recent suggestions of unrest at Manchester United.

Pogba followed up a goal and a fine performance in Manchester United’s opening game of the Premier League season with controversial post-match comments.

When asked whether he was settled at the club, having been handed the captaincy against Leicester, the Frenchman replied: “There are things, and there are things that I cannot say, otherwise I will get fined.”

The Daily Telegraph claim that these quotes came as a surprise to Mourinho, for whom ‘Pogba’s words came out the blue’.

Mourinho knows ‘he can be provocative at times’ in his never-ending quest ‘to get a response’, but always expects his players to come to him to discuss matters face to face instead of in the public domain.

The manager feels his recent messages to Pogba have been ‘constructive and fair’, and that ‘the pair get on well together’.

Mourinho also believed giving Pogba the captain’s armband was enough of an olive branch to assuage any potential issues, with Barcelona reportedly circling.

The Portuguese also holds agent Mino Raiola responsible for any tension between him and Pogba, and it is thought that his comments about the World Cup being the “perfect habitat” for him to perform were aimed more at the 50-year-old than anyone else.
