Jose Mourinho insists “there was no confrontation” between him and Paul Pogba in midweek.

Mourinho and Pogba seemed to clash when Manchester United returned to training after the Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Derby.

The pair were seen deep in animated conversation, with Pogba’s posting of an Instagram video during the previous night’s defeat the subject.

Mourinho was asked about the situation on Friday, and pretended that absolutely nothing was wrong.

“I don’t care about the cameras,” he said. “What confrontation? There was no confrontation.

“Disruptive? For you, it was amazing, you made an incredible story out of 15 minutes of training. We should have 15 minutes of every training session open because what happened the other day happens many days, conversations with players I have many, many, many times.

“It was not the case this time, but loud criticism and instruction, coaching is like that.”

The manager then went on to praise Pogba’s performances in training.

“I am really happy with his work this week. He trained really well,” he said.

“The team needs good players. He is a good player. The team needs the personality to play. He has. He plays tomorrow.”

On his relationship with the Frenchman, Mourinho added: “I think Paul said in one of his appearances in the famous mixed zone and is exactly, he is correct.

“It is a good relation, player manager.”
