Rio Ferdinand believes Jose Mourinho is most dangerous now because he is wounded.
The Portuguese tactician took the job at Manchester United this summer following his sacking by Chelsea in December and subsequently, there is plenty of expectations at Old Trafford.
Former star defender Ferdinand told Poet and Vuj from Copa90 that he feels United have made the decision to appoint Mourinho at the best possible time as he will be hungry for success following his failure at Stamford Bridge just a season after holding the Premier League trophy aloft.
“United got Mourinho at the best time possible. Winners are dangerous when they’re wounded. He’s focused,” said Ferdinand.
“He has a lot of work to do at United, because they finished fifth last season and were not good enough to get into the Champions League.
“When you have a manager with Jose Mourinho’s ability, you always have a chance of winning the league, you can’t be written off.”
Regarding a predicted finish for United, Ferdinand added: “It’s unheard of for Manchester United to be saying you want to finish in a Champions League position.
“When I was there it was minimum to win the league.
“Champions League football and a trophy would be deemed as a good season I think, right now, but next season you’ve got to be aiming to win it.”
