Nemanja Vidic insists Manchester United will focus on themselves, not Pep Guardiola

Former Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic says that he is not worried by Manchester City appointing Pep Guardiola as their new manager and insists United will only focus on what happens at their own club.

Guardiola, highly coveted by many clubs in the world for what he has done in management so far, will take over as City manager in the summer and this has been seen as a major concern to United.

Vidic though insists that Guardiola won’t worry United as they will be keen on making sure that they improve themselves next season.

Vidic told Manchester Evening News that he believes that “Guardiola wants to be part of the best league in the world,” with many top managers now coming to the Premier League, and that it is “great for everyone who loves English Football” that the coach is coming to the league to show his worth.

The Serbian defender continued to say that United “only look at [themselves]” and they certainly need to as they must respond next season to having a poor campaign and “not focus on what City do”.

Vidic wants to see the team challenge City next season and not go out and be beaten just because Guardiola is their manager.

The defender says that when he was a United player it was his “mentality” to not worry what City do, as it is all about what you can do to beat them.

Vidic continued to say that, at United, the idea is “we always look at ourselves” when it comes to challenging for trophies and that the team “try to make the best possible situation from [their] capabilities”.

The first meeting between United and City with Guardiola in charge will come in the summer when the two sides play each other in a pre-season friendly in China.

It will also be interesting with the constant speculation about Jose Mourinho and United to see if he will be lining up as the opposition manager.
