Manchester United great Gary Pallister thinks the Old Trafford crowd could make all the difference as the red devils aim to reverse a 2-0 deficit against Liverpool in the Europa League.
Last week United were outplayed in a disappointing defeat at Anfield against their bitter rivals, in a match where goals from Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino made it a difficult night for the red devils.
Though Pallister, who was in the away end with the United fans last week, thinks that if the United faithful can create an atmosphere to make it difficult for Liverpool then they are still very much in the tie.
The former United centre-back said: “Old Trafford is going to be a different occasion. There was an outstanding atmosphere at Anfield- I thought it was terrific.”
He continued: “If we can reproduce that at Old Trafford and make it uncomfortable for Liverpool there’s no reason we can’t get back into the tie. We’re 2-0 down but if we score early doors it’s a different kettle of fish.”
With United needing a special night at home Pallister, who made 437 appearances for the club, thinks that if the red devils can achieve the unlikely, then it could be the springboard for Louis Van Gaal’s side to take them into the top four this season.
He said: “Nobody in that top four seems to be able to cope with the demands of the Premier League at the moment. Leicester City are sat laughing at the top of the league.”
Pallister outlined the City and West Ham United league games as ties United must win if they wish to secure Champions League football next season.
The great also gave his verdict on United’s indifferent form he said: “Some of the performances have not been as good as the players and manager expected and yet we find ourselves in a position where we can still achieve a lot this season.
“It starts on Thursday night against Liverpool.”
