Paul Pogba has only increased speculation over his immediate future after saying that he “would be fined” if he said what he thought.
Pogba has been linked with moves to either Barcelona or Juventus over the last few weeks, having reportedly fallen out with Jose Mourinho.
In the aftermath of the World Cup, Mourinho was asked about Pogba’s excellent performances at the tournament, but chose to criticise his midfielder.
That has reportedly angered Pogba, who feels as if he is not trusted by Mourinho.
Asked after Manchester United’s 2-1 victory over Leicester City whether he was settled at the club, Pogba hardly dismissed the speculation.
“There are things, and there are things that I cannot say, otherwise I will get fined,” he said.
“I always give my best for the fans, for the teammates and for the people that trust me.
“With the players that we have, of course we’re Manchester United, we have to look at the top of the league. That’s obvious.
“I mean, Manchester United, we have to show on the pitch, we have to play well, we have to be focused and we need people to trust us.”
There will be Manchester United supporters who believe this is a storm over nothing, but Pogba mentioning teammates and fans and then saying and “the people that trust me” without mentioning Mourinho really does mean something and it would be foolish to ignore this.
It could be a really interesting couple of weeks
