Marcus Rashford will not train with England on their first morning in Russia due to a slight knee injury.

The 20-year-old underlined his claims for a starting berth in the Three Lions’ World Cup opener against Tunisia with a man-of-the-match display and outstanding opener against Costa Rica last week.

England manager Gareth Southgate revealed upon landing in Russia on Tuesday that Rashford had sustained a “slight knock” – a knee complaint that kept him out of the first training session as a precautionary measure.

Rashford was excellent against Costa Rica on Thursday and it was thought that his performance had put him in the frame to start against Tunisia on Monday.
