Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has jumped to the defence of Memphis Depay.
Memphis was criticised by United fans for giving the ball away and allowing the move that led to Diego Costa’s 91st-minute leveller in added time at Chelsea.
But United skipper Rooney defended Memphis, who had only been on the pitch for a few minutes, and said fans should cut the £25million signing some slack.
“Memphis is a fantastic player and that happens, we all give bad passes away,” said Rooney.
“A lot of things happened from when you give the ball away to when they’ve scored the goal, so I don’t think we can stand here and blame Memphis.”
