Former Liverpool player Graeme Souness claims he would have James Milner in his side over Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba âevery day of the weekâ.
There have been questions in the early stages of the new season over Pogbaâs relationship with Mourinho but the France international thanked his coach in midweek.
Pogba produced a brilliant performance as he scored two goals in Unitedâs 3-0 victory over Young Boys in their Champions League opener on Wednesday.
âWith him, he needs to sit down and look at himself if he wants to get where he wants to be,â Souness told Paddy Power.
âIâm a bit like Iâd imagine Mourinho is, where you see someone whoâs got so much talent, but not making the most of it.
âThereâs a player in there, but I donât think heâs getting the most out of himself. Itâs criminal. I think he has to change.
âThe guy who works with him every day is not seeing eye-to-eye with him, so heâs not happy with him.
âI imagine heâd see it exactly the same way that I would: youâve got a young man whoâs got the potential to be the very best of his type in the game, but right now itâs not happening for him.â
And Souness was asked whether he would prefer to have Pogba in his team or Milner, with the Scotsman not hesitating in his reply.
âIt isnât even a question. Milner, every day of the week. Heâs a proper player. Who would I rather play against? Paul Pogba,â Souness added.
âI donât want to play against Milner. But, with Pogba, itâs all about him and his game. Heâs not going to stop me, he lets you play, and thatâs one of the criticisms.â
