Manchester United midfielder Antonio Valencia is happy to be kicking off preseason against former club Wigan Athletic.
Latics alumni Valencia couldn’t be happier with the choice of opposition.
When asked how he feels about paying a visit to where it all started for him in England, he told MUTV: “It feels great. I’m happy to be going back to the club that gave me my first chance in English football. It was a big opportunity for me.”
Furthermore, Valencia is excited that the Latics have made it back into the Championship after a successful 2015/16 season in which they claimed the League One title. He hopes Wigan can carry on their winning ways and be promoted back into the Premier League at the end of the new campaign.
“I’m really happy that now they’re going to be back in the second tier and battling to, hopefully, make that next step back into the Premier League where they deserve to be,” he said.
