Louis Van Gaal confident Manchester United job safe if derby lost

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is confident he will survive defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.

The Red Devils were knocked out of the Europa League by Liverpool on Thursday, leaving the FA Cup as their only hope of winning silverware this term.

Van Gaal’s side are sixth in the league, four points behind Manchester City. Defeat against Manchester City tomorrow could leave them seven points off a Champions League spot.

Asked if he fears for his job, Van Gaal snapped: “Every day when we are losing you ask that. But why?

“I have a three-year contract and the process is three years.

“I don’t discuss that with you. Why do I have to discuss that with you?”
