Van Gaal urges United fans to stand with players

Louis Van Gaal has urged Manchester United fans to stand with his team.

With fans growing increasingly restless and chants of ‘attack, attack, attack’ now commonplace at United games, Van Gaal urged supporters to stay behind his team.

He said: “I think it is very important that the fans are supporting the team. It is also a big boost for the players.”

“We have to understand that nowadays it is not so easy any more to disorganise opponents who are defending the way they have been at Old Trafford.”

“Last season I said a lot of things about the fans and their support for us despite the results.”

“But now the results are reasonable or maybe very good. Sometimes they shout ‘attack, attack, attack’ but we are attacking 70 per cent because we have the ball.”

“Maybe they want more long balls, more activity in the 18-yard box, and yes that is possible.”

“But when you see our figures, they are very good at home.”

“And away, in comparison to last season, the figures are also good. And that is the reason why we are third in the table. But we need the support of the fans.”
