Van Gaal wants United to prove themselves in Champions League

Louis Van Gaal believes it is crucial that Manchester United produce a winning result in the Champions League tonight.

The Red Devils take on Wolfsburg in Germany in their final grope stage fixture in need of a win if they are to progress to the knockout stage of Europe’s premier club competition.

United can lose and still get through provided bottom-placed CSKA Moscow get the better of PSV Eindhoven but Van Gaal would rather his side’s fate in their own hands.

“It’s very important for the club to continue in the Champions League also for the players because they want to show their qualities at the highest podium,” Van Gaal said.

“You have to prove yourselves, as a club, as a team and as players. We can’t rely on the result of the other game.”

Van Gaal was also confident the team would be able to ease the woes they have recently had in front of goal.

“You never know that for sure but I have the experience as a manager that the goals shall come,” he added.

“When you are creating chances you will score and finish those kind of chances, we have that belief.”

“It’s a matter of time and I hope that we can prove it tomorrow.”
