Silverware the main objective for Jose Mourinho next season

Last season, Louis van Gaal led Manchester United to the club’s first FA Cup success for quite some time but it wasn’t enough to save his job. Unfortunately for the Dutchman, his tepid style of football was never really appreciated at Old Trafford and supporters raised criticism at his static, boring approach. Whilst he clicked with the fans off the pitch, his own coveted ‘philosophy’ was his downfall.

But now, all signs are pointing towards a positive campaign. United now have proven Premier League boss Jose Mourinho at the helm and the Portuguese has already made moves to bolster United’s squad in the transfer window. Borussia Dortmund’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan followed Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Eric Bailly to Old Trafford and rumours suggest that United could be set for a £100 million reunion with former youth player Paul Pogba.

At the time of writing, United are priced at 3/1 to win the Premier League in Coral’s football betting markets and the Red Devils stand a great chance of securing silverware with Mourinho in charge. If nothing else, he is a proven winner – and his CV supports this. He has won titles in England, Italy and Spain; and he could lead United to more glory and accolades in the not-so-distant future.

If United get Pogba, the title is a genuine possibility. If not, then the 13-time Premier League champions may struggle to maintain a title bid. If truth be told, they’re lacking a bit of bite and substance in midfield; although that has been evident since Roy Keane opted to leave the club. Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Ander Herrera are all competent footballers but United still lack a driven, commanding force in central midfield.

And while the title could prove a step too far, defending the FA Cup would be a fantastic achievement; particularly when you consider United hadn’t won the prestigious competition for over a decade before May’s triumph. As of July 13th, United are one of the early favourites to win the tournament in Coral’s FA Cup odds and Mourinho will be desperate for as many trophies and tournament victories as possible. After all, he LOVES to win awards.

On their day, United are capable of giving anyone a run for their money – especially with Mourinho at the helm. The Red Devils aren’t as strong as they were five years ago but the Portuguese will give them a new lease of life. Some players will leave, others will come in but the bulk of the squad will stay the same.

And Mourinho will be desperate to bring the fear factor back – and with Zlatan, Pogba and Mkhitaryan, Old Trafford will mature into a fortress once again…
