Everton are preparing a swoop for Manchester United centre-back Chris Smalling, according to reports.
Smalling has regularly made the starting XI this season but his contract is up next summer which could lead to Toffees boss Sam Allardyce going after the 28-year-old.
The Merseyside club will reportedly test United’s resolve at the end of the season by making a cut-price offer for Smalling.
The London-born player joined the Old Trafford side in 2010 for an undisclosed fee.
Smalling struggled during Jose Mourinho’s first season in charge of the Red Devils, after the arrival of Eric Bailly, making just 13 league appearances.
But the England international earned a spot back in the first-team after Bailly’s long-term injury at the start of the season and has made 21 appearances for United, holding off competition from the likes of Victor Lindelof.
