Zinedine Zidane has left the door open for Manchester United to sign Gareth Bale this summer as Real Madrid line-up a move for Monaco starlet Kylian Mbappe.

United boss Jose Mourinho has made no secret of his admiration for Bale and Real’s desire to sign Mbappe could force them to let one of their stars go.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Bale are most likely to be sacrificed, but it’s the Welshamn whose position would be most at risk.

Zidane said: ‘I hope the BBC (Bale, Benzema and Cristiano) stay for this season. I hope everyone remains. I want everyone who is here to stay, but anything can happen right up until August 31.’

Bale is expected to start in the most advanced attacking role when Real face United in the UEFA SUper Cup next month as Ronaldo takes a break following Confederations Cup duty with Portugal.

The last time United and Real played each other Mourinho bumped into Bale and cheekily jibed: ‘I can’t buy you because you don’t speak to me.’
