Reports: United scouting 20-year-old Pachuca winger Hirving Lozano

According to Pachuca’s club president Jesus Martinez, Manchester United’s chief scout Jim Lawlor has been scouting winger Hirving Lozano.

The 20-year-old winger has shown huge potential since he joined the Liga MX side’s senior team back in 2014. Since making his first-team debut back in February two years ago, Lozano has made 79 appearances – scoring a respectable 19 goals.

Martinez commented on the situation to Mexican news site AS saying, “[Lawlor] has been coming here to do special reports on our players, but especially Chucky.”

The club president continues to explain, he says, “We would love it if he had to go that it would be to a team like Manchester United or Porto.”

In addition to playing well in Liga MX, the 20-year-old has been a consistent part of the national team, whether it be with the U-20s, U-23s, or most recently, the senior national team. In his international career, the winger has made a total of 15 appearances, accumulating eight goals in the process.

United have had past dealings with signing Mexican youngsters, most notably was ex-Guadalajara striker Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez. The Red Devils will hope Lozano can produce the same energy and scoring mentality Chicharito displayed, provided they manage to sign him.

Although Hernandez’s final moments with the club weren’t ones to remember, the Mexican striker was a loyal servant to Sir Alex Ferguson’s side. However, with the introduction of David Moyes and Louis van Gaal, the 27-year-old striker was exiled from the first-team.

The Mexican striker was sent out to Real Madrid on loan, and most recently completed a permanent deal with Bayer Leverkusen, where he has been flourishing in the Bundesliga.

If Manchester United sign Hirving Lozano, they should do their best not to waste his talent in the same vein they wasted Chicharito. Signing the 20-year-old will give United a much-needed young winger – who can bring flair and speed.
